Everything went against Arsenal, says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that everything went against his side as they lost 2-0 at home to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League second round tie, Sky Sports has reported.

The Gunners began the game on the front foot and won a penalty early on as Mesut Ozil was tripped by Jerome Boateng. However, Ozil’s spot-kick was saved, and the game turned on 38 minutes when Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for bringing down Bayern winger Arjen Robben.

David Alaba hit the post with the resultant penalty, but Bayern’s extreme second half pressure told as Toni Kroos hit a magnificent 20-yard opener, before Tomas Muller netted the visitor’s second priceless away goal two minutes from time.

After the game, Wenger said: "Tonight, everything went against us. We should have been three up before they got a sniff in the game and we made big mistakes, but the spirit was fantastic. The penalty we missed killed it a little bit, the crowd and the positive vibes."

Wenger was also critical of the way in which Ozil took his penalty, and the decision to send off Szczesny, adding: "I prefer people that properly hit the ball. Everybody has their own style and you have to respect that, there is no one way of penalty taking. There is contact, it is a penalty, is it a red card? I have disputed that many times."
