Netherlands Coach Louis van Gaal has confirmed he wants to work in the Premier League after the World Cup, Sky Sports has reported.

Van Gaal was linked to Tottenham Hotspur when Andre Villas-Boas left White Hart Lane, only for the post to go to Tim Sherwood. The 68-year-old acknowledged the interest from Tottenham but added he was open to offers from other interested parties.

“I am mostly interested in England because I have been a coach in Spain, Germany, in the Netherlands, so I think England is the next step in my career,” van Gaal said.

“Spurs? It could be another club - it depends on the vacancies, because Spurs was already with me.

“I prefer to be focused on this World Cup and now there's another coach (at Spurs), so as coach you cannot say I go to that club or that club, it depends on circumstances and the vacancies.”

Van Gaal rose to prominence as manager of Ajax between 1991 and 1997, winning the Champions League with a young side in 1995. He moved on to Barcelona before taking charge of the Oranje in 2000 for a two year spell.

A return to Camp Nou followed before four years at AZ Alkmaar, ending in 2009. Van Gaal was then appointed at Bayern Munich and stayed for two years, and in 2012 was confirmed as the Netherlands Coach for a second time.
