Chelsea vs Everton - Premier League preview and team news

Leaders Chelsea have an opportunity to increase the pressure on the chasing pack as they host sixth-placed Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Jose Mourinho will be looking for an improvement from Chelsea’s last two outings, as they conceded a late equaliser at struggling West Bromwich Albion, and failed to manage a shot on target in being knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City. The resumption of the Champions League and a trip to Galatasaray is on the immediate horizon, but this represents the perfect chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.

Everton have stuttered of late, though it is two weeks since they last played in the Premier League, losing somewhat unfortunately against Tottenham, one of their main rivals for a top four finish. They have since responded by beating Swansea City in the FA Cup, but that was not a vintage display, so manager Roberto Martinez will be hoping his side can rediscover the form they were showing before they lost at Liverpool in January.

John Terry should return to the Chelsea defence after injury, leaving Marco van Ginkel as their only player on the sidelines.

The away side have Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo all unavailable along with Romelu Lukaku, who is ineligible but still recovering from injury.
