Lambert: No pressure on Aston Villa away form
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has rejected the suggestion that the club’s poor home form makes their away visits more important, Sky Sports has reported.
Villa travel to Newcastle on Saturday and are currently 12th in the Premier League table, four points clear of the relegation zone. The Midlands club have won only twice in their last 10 league games, once at home in a 4-3 victory over West Bromwich Albion, and once away, a 1-0 triumph at Sunderland.
Of Villa’s 28 points, 17 have come from away games and Lambert doesn’t believe his players feel under pressure to maintain that form as they’ve performed well on the road since the first day of the season, a 3-1 win at Arsenal.
“I don't think there's pressure there because they've done it all year, they've picked up that amount of points away from home,” Lambert said.
“It's an incredible amount of points to pick up away from home, especially in this league, it's the toughest league ever. To get those points away from home, they seem to have that freedom and be more relaxed for some strange reason.”
Villa’s last away game ended in a goalless draw at struggling Cardiff City.
