West Brom manager Pepe Mel has declared that his side will be able to avoid relegation this season, according to Sky Sports.

The Baggies currently sit just above the drop zone but only remain out of it due to their superior goal difference over Sunderland, and have played one game more than the Black Cats.

The 50-year-old took over from Steve Clark in January but has been unable to stop his side from dropping down the table.

“I think West Brom won't be relegated, never, not possible. I am sure, of course,” said Pepe Mel. “West Brom will be playing in the Premier League next season, sure.”

Despite the club’s misfortunes, the former Real Betis Coach strongly believes that his team have the ability to turn their season around and highlighted that his side must remain positive.

Mel declared that if the season is to improve then they must win at least five more of their remaining games, starting with a win at fellow strugglers and bottom of the table Fulham.

“Of course, we need to win. We need to beat Fulham and after that we need to win the other games,” added Mel.

“I think we need to win five more games. (Fulham) is very important because they are in the relegation zone. Our focus is the way forward to win. The other thing is mental.”
