Liverpool set to consider move for Benzema
Liverpool are to consider making an ambitious attempt to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema should they qualify for next season’s Champions League, according to the Metro.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has already spoken of his intention of signing ‘world class’ players during the summer if they manage to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season, and the Frenchman is thought to have emerged as a realistic target.
Reports suggest that Benzema is considering leaving the Bernabeu at the end of the season, alerting Liverpool to the possibility of signing him. Any deal is set to cost at least £25m, though adding 26-year-old could make them one of the main title favourites in 2014-15.
The Merseyside club are, however, set to face competition from a host of other European clubs should Benzema indeed leave Real Madrid this summer, with two of their Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Manchester City, both said to be among the interested parties.
Benzema joined Real Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2009, and has gone on to score 106 goals in 216 games, helping to win the La Liga title in 2012.
