England to face Switzerland in Euro 2016 qualifying

England have been drawn in Group E to face Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania and San Marino in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, Sky Sports has reported.


In what looks a relatively straightforward group, Roy Hodgson’s men must finish in the top two to ensure automatic qualification for the 24-team tournament, which will be hosted by France. The best third placed team also qualifies automatically, while the rest will be involved in two-legged play-offs.

Scotland will be in Group D alongside Germany, new boys Gibraltar, and the Republic of Ireland, who will embark on their first major tournament campaign under the management of Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane.

As for Wales, they have a tricky looking group which includes Belgium and Bosnia & Herzegovina, while Northern Ireland may fancy their chances of finishing in the top three of Group F, where Greece are the top seeds.

Hosts France will join Group I, but no points will be on offer in any of their matches, as they were allowed to take part due to the difficulties experienced by previous tournament hosts to arrange friendlies. The qualifying campaign begins in September.

Group D: Germany, Republic of Ireland, Poland, Scotland, Georgia, Gibraltar

Group E: England, Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, San Marino

Group F: Greece, Hungary, Romania, Finland, Northern Ireland, Faroe Islands

Group G: Russia, Sweden, Austria, Montenegro, Moldova, Liechtenstein

Group H: Italy, Croatia, Norway, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Malta

Group I: Portugal, Denmark, Serbia, Armenia, Albania
