Monk: Michu not leaving Swansea

Swansea City’s interim manager Garry Monk has insisted Michu will not be sold to Anzhi Makhachkala, ESPN has reported.

The Russian transfer window is still open and the former Ray Vallecano forward has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium. But Monk, a long-serving Swansea player installed as manager after Michael Laudrup was sacked, is adamant Michu will stay in Wales.

“There have been no offers, it is just speculation,” Monk said after Swansea’s 4-3 defeat to Liverpool. “He is part of our plans and part of what we want going forward. There is no one more eager to get back on the pitch and the training field than him.”

Michu has missed Swansea’s last 15 games with a knee injury and Monk added the only thing concerning Michu is recovering his fitness.

“Michu is the type of player that is going to attract interest,” Monk continued. “He needs to get fit. As a club, your best players are linked [with moves away], we have had it for several years, we are not a selling club, but the players that have been sold in the past have been at the right price.”

The 27-year-old has scored 28 goals for Swansea in 62 games, netting six times in 20 appearances this season, but hasn’t played since the 1-1 draw with Norwich City in mid-December.
