Olympiakos vs Man Utd - Match preview and team news

Manchester United travel to Greece on Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League second round tie, hoping to continue their impressive run in Europe this season.

In a campaign where positive results have been frustratingly hard to come by, David Moyes has enjoyed some respite in the Champions League, winning four and drawing two of their six group stage matches and scoring 13 goals in the process.

The three-times winners come into this with renewed confidence, having taken their unbeaten Premier League run to three games with a fairly comfortable win at Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Robin van Persie finding the net for the fourth time in five games since returning from injury, along with Wayne Rooney.

However, they are still 11 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, meaning that it is likely that the only way they can qualify for next season’s Champions League is to actually win the competition this time around.

The Red Devils may fancy their chances here, but Olympiakos cannot be underestimated. Cantering towards yet another Greek title, they came through a tough group which included Paris St. Germain and Benfica, although since then they have sold top scorer Konstantinos Mitroglou to Fulham.

Olympiakos will be without striking duo Javier Saviola and Marko Scepovic, but recent signing Nelson Valdez could be fit enough to play.

Juan Mata is unavailable for Man Utd having played in the Champions League for Chelsea earlier this season, while Jonathan Evans, Phil Jones and Luis Nani are all injured. On the positive side, Danny Welbeck and Rafael da Silva are fit again.
