West Brom players adapting to Mel’s tactics, claims Olsson

Tuesday 25 February 2014

West Bromwich Albion captain Jonas Olsson has dismissed claims that his side are struggling to adapt to new Head Coach Pepe Mel’s methods and tactics, the Birmingham Mail has reported.

Pepe Mel

The former Real Betis boss was appointed as West Brom’s Head Coach back in January, but has so far failed to win any of his six Premier League games in charge. All four of his home fixtures have ended in 1-1 draws, and on each occasion, the Baggies have equalised in the second half having been behind at half time.

And with the club just a point and a place above the Premier League’s bottom three, Olsson insisted that he and his teammates are coping with Mel’s style of play, but believes that having the upcoming weekend off will prove beneficial. He said: “I think for us it helps because when you’ve got a new gaffer on board, two weeks training without a game can only be beneficial.

“I think we showed against Chelsea, Liverpool and Fulham that we’re coping with the way the gaffer wants to play. When you come in during a season and want to change things, of course you don’t have a lot of time so that’s why we went to Spain.

“It was a good trip and a lot of positives will come from it. It’s good to be away with the team when you’re in the position we are. It is very beneficial because it’s always nice, when you have a new manager, to give him five days of training and time to put down his mark.’
