Kompany reveals lessons from FA Cup defeat

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has said that suffering FA Cup heartache at Wembley last season will help the club to stay focused ahead of their Capital One Cup final against Sunderland this weekend, report Sky Sports.

The Belgian admits that the shock 1 - 0 defeat to Wigan last May still plays on his mind and is hoping that he can add the only domestic trophy he hasn’t won to a growing collection of silverware.

“In the back of my mind, I still have the defeat to Wigan," Kompany said.

"If you know the history of City, you cannot say that reaching a final is the low part of your career. Emotionally it's tough, and it was something I took on board.

"I learned a lot from it, and that day was all about realising you cannot let your hunger get less - and on that day it became multiplied. It's not a negative, it has been my drive and is possibly the best thing that has happened in that it has given me even more hunger.

And despite being overwhelming favourites, Kompany insists that City will not be taking Sunderland lightly.

The Black Cats currently sit 18th and are in the thick of the relegation battle, but have already beaten City once this season.

“I am not going to visualise anything - that's too much," he added.

"All I know is that it will be a football game like any other and I just want the whole team to be at its best on the day.”
