Aguero returns to Man City training ahead of cup final
Wednesday 26 February 2014
Manchester City have been handed a boost as Sergio Aguero has returned to training and could be fit enough to play in Sunday’s Capital One Cup final, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
The Argentine has been out of action since being forced off with a hamstring problem in the win over Tottenham at the end of January, and Man City have struggled in his absence, scoring only three goals in their five games, failing to score against the likes of Chelsea, Norwich City and Barcelona.
With 26 goals in 25 games, Aguero is Man City’s top scorer this season, and the Citizens hope that he can return to the team for the Wembley meeting with Sunderland after he came through training with the rest of the squad on Tuesday. Whether he starts the game on the pitch or on the bench will depend on how well he proves his fitness.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini is monitoring the situation closely, but should he be unable no name Aguero among his starting XI, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo are likely to be named as the strike partnership with fellow striker Stevan Jovetic an injury doubt.
