Liverpool must keep calm says Toure
Wednesday 26 February 2014
Liverpool centre back Kolo Toure has called on his team mates to remain calm as they continue to battle for a Champions League place next season, report Sky Sports.
The Anfield club currently sit in fourth place, six points clear of Tottenham and only four points adrift of leaders Chelsea as the season approaches its climax.
Yet the Reds have only kept one clean sheet in the past 11 games stretching all the way back to mid-December, and despite an impressive performance from their attacking players the defence has been criticised again in the aftermath of their 4 - 3 victory over Swansea.
Toure feels there is no time for criticism and hopes his fellow defenders can focus until the end of the campaign.
He said: “We just need now to keep calm and do what we have been doing, if we continue that we will get the same results.
"There are going to be some tough games; Southampton [this Saturday] is a tough place to go but I think we can score goals and defend well as a team and we are working hard.”
While defence hasn’t been the stand out area for Liverpool, they are winning many plaudits for their style of play, something goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes manager Brendan Rodgers should take credit for.
The Belgian stopper said: “The gaffer gives everyone confidence. When you step on the pitch you know that he's behind supporting you.
"Everyone is trying to do their job the best they can and we need to keep doing that until the end of the season."
