Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has been omitted from the France squad to play the Netherlands, Sky Sports has reported.

Didier Deschamps has named 24 players but there is no room for the former Arsenal man or Eric Abidal, Monaco’s former Barcelona defender. Deschamps however refused to confirm or deny the absence of the pair - or anyone else - meant they wouldn’t go to the World Cup.

“Interpretations are up to you. Many players are out of the squad and I prefer answering questions about those who are in,” the World Cup winner said. “I can't tell you how critical it is to be in this squad. The most important one will be the one I name in June.”

Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann is in line to win his first cap, as is Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Digne. Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala, with one cap to his name, is also in the party, while Franck Ribery and Mamadou Sakho both returning after missing the previous squad through injury.

The squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Marseille), Stephane Ruffier (St Etienne)

Defenders: Mathieu Debuchy (Newcastle), Lucas Digne (PSG), Patrice Evra (Man United), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Eliaquim Mangala (Porto), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Mamadou Sakho (Liverpool), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)

Midfielders: ohan Cabaye (PSG), Clement Grenier (Lyon), Blaise Matuidi (PSG), Rio Mavuba (Lille), Paul Pogba (Juventus), Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle), Antoine Griezmann (Real Sociedad), Dimitri Payet Marseille), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille)

Forwards: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Olivier Giroud (Arsenal), Loic Remy (Newcastle)
