Hull vs Newcastle - Premier League preview and team news

Hull City and Newcastle United will be both be going for back-to-back Premier League wins when they meet on Saturday at the KC Stadium.

The home side looked like a team in no danger of being dragged into a relegation scrap as they destroyed second-from-bottom Cardiff City. The arrivals of Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long have made such a massive difference to the attack, and the duo were instrumental in that victory, ruthlessly exposing the Welsh club’s defensive shortcomings to give the Tigers a six point cushion above the drop zone.

There was relief all round on Tyneside on Sunday as Loic Remy grabbed a dramatic late winner against Aston Villa to lift some of the doom and gloom that has surrounded Newcastle in recent weeks. The striker on loan from Queens Park Rangers showed how important he was to the club’s fortunes, moving them on to 40 points and ensuring a grandstand finish to what had been a largely turgid affair.

Jelavic, Long and Tom Huddlestone will return for Hull after not featuring in Monday’s FA Cup replay win over Brighton & Hove Albion, but Robbie Brady and Paul McShane are out.

Hatem Ben Arfa and Davide Santon will both be missing for Newcastle, but winger Gabriel Obertan could feature after recovering from injury.
