Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has predicted a difficult game against Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday, ClubCall has reported.

The two sides are separated by 15 places and 33 points but Fernandinho insists City can’t go to the Wembley showpiece believing the game is already won.

“In England, each game is difficult,” the Brazil international said. “he performance of the team always has to be very good to win - this is the main difference between football in England and where I've played previously.”

Fernandinho arrived at City from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer and has become a regular part of Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield. He added that he expected the game against the Black Cats to have all the intensity of a regular league fixture.

“I have no doubt that Sunday will be like this against Sunderland and we must be at our best to make sure we get to lift the trophy,” he continued.

“We have a chance to win the Capital One Cup and we will try to do it - we always want to win every competition we are in and this is a very important tournament. It would be a good start for me here in England in my first season, to win the first competition available.”

City are third in the Premier League ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, three points off the top, with Sunderland 18th, three points off the bottom.
