Chelsea have to fight through fatigue, says Lampard

Chelsea have got to dig deep and come through any tiredness at this most crucial point of the season if they want to win the Premier League title, ESPN has reported Frank Lampard as saying.

Jose Mourinho’s side are top of the table, a point clear of Arsenal, but this week had a draining trip to Turkey and back for the Champions League. But Lampard, a veteran of title wins under Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, believes this is what title-winners have to do, especially at this time of year.

But Chelsea could go nine points clear of the teams behind them in coming weeks as the Capital One Cup final and the FA Cup compete for the attentions of Manchester City and Arsenal. “It's tight and that would be a nice gap,” Lampard admitted.

“It's crunch time where you have to develop a winning mentality that even if you play badly, you win,” the midfielder continued. “But our run since December has been fantastic in the league, we have put ourselves right up in the race.

“We don't expect any favours. It's about resting up and getting ready to go,” Lampard said of the round trip to Istanbul. “Other countries seem to look after teams representing them in the Champions League. I'm not sure we do so much here. I'm not trying to get one over on other Premier League teams - it just seems a general rule.

“It would seem like using a bit of common sense if you are getting home at 6am like I am. We could have done with Fulham being on a Sunday. But you don't get too many favours considering the journey we have had.”
