Wenger: Liverpool in title race

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Liverpool are one of the teams with which the Gunners are competing to win the Premier League title, Sky Sports has reported.

Liverpool are currently fourth in the table, four points off leaders Chelsea, who Arsenal trail by a point. Wenger believes that since the league is the only competition Liverpool are competing in at this stage, they could have an advantage over their rivals, who are each still in the Champions League.

“It's very tight at the top, Liverpool are in the race, and they have an advantage as it is the only competition they play,” Wenger said. “I hope it will be tight until the end, because then it will be interesting and if you are consistent then you have a chance to win.”

Liverpool perhaps gave an indication of their title credentials by beating Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield in the league earlier in February, although Arsenal gained a measure of revenge by knocking Liverpool out of the FA Cup shortly after.

Arsenal play Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday and Wenger has called on his players to go to the Potters with full concentration.

“You need to be at your best to find the resources to win games, this is a big game for us and of course this weekend we just want to focus on the three points,” he added.

“We got the three points against Sunderland who are a tricky team, so we want to do it again. We have to look at our results, just focus on that and not speculate too much because we're in a period where we have to move forward.”
