Aston Villa vs Norwich - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Sunday 02 March 2014

Relegation threatened duo Aston Villa and Norwich City meet in a hugely important game in the West Midlands on Sunday.

Paul Lambert has fared well against his former club since leaving for Villa Park in the summer of 2012, and he needs another positive result here to halt his team’s slide towards the bottom three. However, their home record this season does not bode well going into this encounter, and Villa could still be hurting after conceding a last-gasp winner to Newcastle United in their previous game.

Norwich will fancy their chances here after producing a fine performance to deservedly beat Tottenham to move level on points with Villa, and four above the relegation zone. Manager Chris Hughton will be hoping for his side to add more goals to their game, but the signing of Joseph Yobo has succeeded in tightening things up at the back, as the Canaries have kept two clean sheets in recent games against top six clubs.

Aston Villa have slight doubts over Ryan Bertrand and Ashley Westwood, after both were forced off at Newcastle. Jores Okore and Libor Kozak are both long-term absentees.

Defender Ryan Bennett is a major doubt for Norwich, who are definitely without Michael Turner, Jonas Gutierrez and Elliott Bennett.
