Swansea vs Crystal Palace - Premier League preview and team news

Sunday 02 March 2014

Swansea City and Crystal Palace will both be aiming to make a giant stride in their attempts to move clear of danger when they meet on Sunday.

The Welsh club come into this following an agonising defeat to Napoli in the Europa League, but they can take immense credit from their performance in both legs. They also gave Liverpool a major scare in their last league game, another which suggested that they have looked a lot stronger since Garry Monk took over the reins to replace Michael Laudrup, but there is still work to do if he is to keep Swansea up.

Marouane Chamakh’s rash challenge on Patrice Evra ended Crystal Palace’s stubborn resistance against Manchester United, after the Eagles had looked extremely capable of at least holding the champions. This game represents a fine chance for Tony Pulis’ side to move clear of their rivals, as neither Sunderland nor West Bromwich Albion are in Premier League action this weekend.

The hosts could make changes from their trip to Italy, but Miguel Michu is again unlikely to feature while Jonjo Shelvey is a slight doubt with a hamstring problem.

Crystal Palace have almost a fully-fit squad, but this game is likely to come too soon for Jerome Thomas, who has been out for three months with a back injury.
