Soldado set for scoring spree claims Sherwood

Monday 03 March 2014

Roberto Soldado finally broke his goal drought at the weekend and Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has now backed the Spanish forward to go on a goal spree, according to the Daily Star.

Soldado had gone nine appearances without a goal for Tottenham and relief was shared around the whole of White Hart Lane when the Spaniard tucked home the winning goal against Cardiff.

And having fired the North London club to within four points of the Champions League positions Sherwood believes it is just the start of the goals from the £26m hitman.

Sherwood said: “Robbie scored goals in a top league in Spain. We know what he’s capable of. I’ve stuck by him and I believe he will come good.

“I just hope this is a platform for him to go on and score 20 goals between now and the end of the season!

“If I could have picked anyone to score the winning goal it would have been him. You could see how much it meant to him.”

Club captain Michael Dawson also revealed his joy for his team mate.

Dawson said: “We have been wishing it in for him. We are just delighted to see him score. The fans have been behind him every step of the way and he is a top player.”

Soldado had come in for harsh criticism from some fans, and was even branded a donkey by Sir Alan Sugar after the striker missed a glorious chance against FC Dnipro with the goal at his mercy.

But Sherwood brushed off the comments, claiming that the player probably didn’t even know who Sugar was.

Sherwood added: “I’m not sure he knows who Alan Sugar is. He’s Spanish!”
