Samir Nasri has said the key to his Manchester City performances is the trust of Manuel Pellegrini, Sky Sports has reported, with the midfielder comparing Pellegrini to his old Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Nasri left the Gunners for City in 2011and told L’Equipe that Pellegrini has been a breath of fresh air compared to the manager who brought him to the Etihad Stadium, Roberto Mancini.

Pellegrini replaced Mancini at the start of the season and when Nasri was asked why his performances at club level have been more consistent than for France, he was clear in his answer.

“It is not only on the pitch [that things are different],” Nasri said. “It is also trust people give you. At Manchester this season, I have a perfect coach. He reminds me a lot Arsene Wenger. He really trusts me.

“[Last season] after 50 minutes, I could see the board go up and I know it was for me to be substituted. Not anymore. I have a coach that always tells me I am an important player. I can feel it, my teammates try to play with me on the pitch.

“I can feel it from the fans too. I worked to reverse the general opinion. Last year after the [Robin] van Persie free-kick [in the defeat to Manchester United] I was public enemy number one.

“When there is such a rush on you, you can't be outstanding anymore. Trust, it is about 90 per cent of a footballer.”

Nasri was part of the City side that beat Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday, scoring the second goal of a 3-1 win.

He has made 115 appearances for City in two-and-a-half years at the club, scoring 18 goals, after playing 125 times for Arsenal, netting on 27 occasions.
