Jermaine Jenas is hopeful of agreeing a new contract to stay at Queens Park Rangers past the end of this season, Sky Sports has reported.

Jermaine Jenas

Jenas agreed an 18-month deal upon signing from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2013 and after regaining full fitness and playing regularly following an injury-hit few years, Jenas is happy to remain at Loftus Road.

“Would I like to stay? Yeah, definitely,” Jenas told a local newspaper. “QPR took a chance on me when I ruptured my Achilles, and we'll hopefully talk at the end of the season about a new contract.”

Jenas added that he was far from the only player in the QPR squad with a soon-to-expire contract, but stressed that getting the R’s promoted back to the Premier League was the priority.

“There's a few of us in the same situation, and we're fighting tooth and nail to get the club back in the Premier League,” the former England international said. “On a personal level I've been happy with my performances, but I came at a tough time when we were bottom of the league. It's been a weird topsy-turvy experience, but I've enjoyed it.”

QPR are currently fourth in the Championship and without a win in five games following the 1-1 home draw with Leeds United on Saturday. Harry Redknapp’s side trail leaders Leicester City by 17 points.
