Luke Shaw deserves his England call-up, says Lallana
Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana has claimed that his Southampton team-mate Luke Shaw deserves his first call-up to the England squad, according to Sky Sports.
The young left-back was picked in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the first time and is now likely to feature for his international side against Denmark on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old has been called up alongside fellow Saints players Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez and the Southampton captain has been full of praise for Shaw.
"I'm not surprised at all," said Lallana. "He has been outstanding for us all season. He looks like a seasoned pro and it was no surprise to see he was included in the squad.
"There are two outstanding players ahead of him (Cole and Baines) but he will keep his feet on the ground.
"He knows he is going to learn off them and if he watches them closely in training he knows it is going to do him good."
It is the first time that Southampton have had four players called up to the national side and Lallana believes that Lambert’s initial call-up gave the others the hope to make the squad.
"Seeing Rickie being involved gave everyone an extra 10 per cent of belief," added the 25-year-old.
"We have had a good season at Southampton, been performing well on a consistent basis and we have all been helping each other.
"It is brilliant, it proves how far the club has come and to have four lads representing the country this week is fantastic."
