Stoke boss Coates slams Adam charge

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has slammed the decision by the FA to charge midfielder Charlie Adam, describing it as “disgusting”, Sky Sports has reported.



The FA has charged 28 year old Adam after the Scotland international appeared to stamp on Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud following a challenge during the club’s 1 - 0 win over the Gunners at the Britannia Stadium.


The incident was missed by referee Mike Jones and both of his assistants but was reviewed by a panel of three former referees, who have taken the decision to charge the player.


Adam has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge laid on him, with chairman Coates insisting that the club shall do so “vigorously” and claimed that the media were the reason behind the charge.


Coates said: “We feel this is trial by media. We are disgusted. We have seen some of the things that have gone on in recent weeks and no one has been called to account.


"Charlie absolutely assures us it was not intentional. We will defend it vigorously. It is appalling."


This latest incident will no doubt increase the ill feeling between the two clubs, stemming from Aaron Ramsey’s leg break after a challenge with Ryan Shawcross in February 2010.
