Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that he does not play mind games with his opponents and the press, according to The Daily Star.

The Portuguese boss admitted that it is important to influence opinions and personalities before a big match but denied that he ever played mind games with opponents.

"It's not mind games; I don't try to do that,” said the 51-year-old.

"The period before the game can be important to influence opinions, characters, personalities, feelings and, of course, I use that to touch my players, to touch opponents, to touch supporters."

The Blues boss has been involved in several wars of words with opponent managers already this season, including Arsenal and Manchester City managers Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini.

Despite the exchanges between the coaches, the Chelsea man has insisted that it is not mind games that he plays and that the only game that matters is the one played on the football pitch.

"But for me, the only game in football is the 90-minutes game,” added Mourinho.

Mourinho’s influence will now be crucial as his top-of-the-table side go into their next match-up against London rivals Tottenham on Saturday evening.
