Sunderland quartet in contract dispute
The futures of Sunderland quartet Phil Bardsley, Jack Colback, Craig Gardner and Sebastian Larsson are in doubt as none of them have yet agreed terms on a new contract, reports the Daily Mail.
The contracts of all four players are set to expire in the summer, so each of them could depart despite helping Sunderland to the Capital One Cup final, which they lost to Manchester City on Sunday.
The Black Cats are currently involved in negotiations with Bardsley and Colback, who are both believed to be willing to sign a new deal. However, they have both made it clear that they are not prepared to accept the terms that have been offered by the Wearside club.
Talks with Gardner and Larsson, who both joined from Birmingham City in the summer of 2011, are reportedly yet to begin, leaving the duo’s future uncertain.
Sunderland’s tentative approach to negotiations is likely to be because of the uncertainty regarding their Premier League status, as relegation would mean that the club’s playing budget would be significantly reduced.
