Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is waiting to discover the extent of a knee injury that he suffered while playing for Mexico on Wednesday, Sky Sports is reporting.

Javier Hernandez

The 25-year-old had to be taken off at half time during Mexico’s friendly with Nigeria after being involved in a heavy collision with Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama. He will now undergo some tests to learn the extent of the problem.

After the match, Hernandez did admit to having some concerns about the injury, saying: "I don't feel good, the [Nigerian] goalkeeper fell on top of me, I'll wait for the tests."

Mexican national team doctor Jose Vazquez added: "We have to wait to see how it evolves and to run the relevant tests. It's a blow, but we rule out the possibility of a knee ligament strain. There is only pain and there is no indication of instability in the knee."

Despite injuries to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, Hernandez has only been used sparingly for Man Utd under David Moyes, with Danny Welbeck also seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order. This season, he has made 25 appearances - mostly from the bench - and has scored seven goals.
