Liverpool and Arsenal battle over Marseille youngster Lopez
Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Marseille youngster Maxime Lopez in the summer, according to The Daily Mail.
The 16-year-old is a product of the French club’s youth system and his performances have caught the attention of Premier League scouts.
The teenager has previously played against Arsenal in a UEFA Youth League match-up causing Gunners scout Giles Grimandi to take a closer look at the player.
The youngster played 24 minutes as a substitute in a 4-1 loss to the London side before being influential in the 1-1 second leg draw.
The playmaker is also reported to have met with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers in a bid to entice him into an opportunity at the Anfield club.
Liverpool invited Lopez and his family as guests for the Merseyside derby at Anfield and have outlined to him how the team’s youngsters are getting a chance to prove their selves in the first team.
The Reds currently sit in second place in the Premier League and hoping that securing a Champions League spot will enable them to bring top players to the club.
