West Brom vs Man Utd - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 07 March 2014

West Bromwich Albion will be looking to ease their relegation fears with a win over Manchester United, who are very much in need of a positive result themselves.

The Hawthorns
The signs do not appear positive at the Hawthorns at present, with rumours rife that Head Coach Pepe Mel’s job could be under threat after just six matches in charge. The Spaniard has had two weeks to work with his squad since the draw at home to Fulham, and he will hope things pay off as this is the beginning of what looks a season-defining run for Albion, who have upcoming fixtures against four of their direct rivals.

For Man Utd, this game could not have come too soon after their shambolic display against Olympiakos in the Champions League. David Moyes will be expecting a massive reaction from his players, and the Scot knows that anything but a win here would surely end any lingering hopes of a top four finish. As it stands, they are 12 points off the pace, with two of their next three games against Liverpool and Manchester City.

Home defender Billy Jones will be out for some weeks with a hamstring injury, but Claudio Yacob and Stephane Sessegnon could be in line for a return. Meanwhile, Nicolas Anelka begins a five-match ban.

Man Utd striker Javier Hernandez is a doubt after picking up an injury on international duty, but Adnan Januzaj and Juan Mata should return after not featuring in Athens.
