Manchester United manager David Moyes wrote an open letter to the club’s fans to thank them for their loyalty in a difficult season, according to Sky Sports.

The former Everton boss has suffered a difficult start to his Manchester United career having been knocked out of both domestic cups and looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Despite only winning 27 Premier League games this season, the 50-year-old reached out to fans in the club’s 12th man magazine thanking them for their support.

"The Club is built on a fantastic fan base throughout the world not just here in Manchester, Manchester United is supported everywhere. I saw that when I went on tour and more importantly I'm seeing it a lot at Old Trafford with great support,” said Moyes.

"I think the supporters understand the difficult period we are in and they are backing the players, they really are.”

The Premier League champions are currently seventh in the league this season but Moyes believes that the players will play better and results will need to improve for the team.

Although Moyes has received a lot of criticism and backlash following his succession of Sir Alex Ferguson, the Scot believes that the club’s supporters will remain loyal.

"If you are a football supporter you understand what loyalty is - if you are someone who follows a club passionately then you follow them whether it is doing badly or whether it is doing well.

"It takes stronger supporters to support your club when it is not doing well, sometimes it is a bit easier when we are winning, at the moment the Manchester United supporters realise there is some changes being made and they understand their time will come again.”
