Pellegrini: two-game ban was harsh

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that his UEFA two-game touchline ban was excessive, according to Sky Sports.

The Chilean was charged with the ban by UEFA following his comments made about Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson for his display in City’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

The ban of two games, plus a suspended additional game, will mean Pellegrini must watch from the stands and may not contact his team before or during the second leg of the tie.

"I don't think I deserve three games or two games," said Pellegrini.

"I said two days after in my press conference that I was wrong in the way I did it but I continue saying that it was not a penalty and that it decided the game, in a bad day (for the referee).

"But I don't want to continue and, if they decide that is the punishment for me, I will see what I am going to do in future."

The ban came after the 60-year-old claimed the official was ‘not impartial’ to both sides in the match between his side and Barcelona.

The main cause for concern was the referee’s award of a penalty to the Catalan side and the dismissal of City defender Martin Demichelis for a last-man challenge, which Pellegrini deemed to be outside the area.
