Man City vs Wigan - Match preview and team news

Sunday 09 March 2014

The last FA Cup tie of quarter-final weekend is a repeat of last season’s final, as Wigan Athletic travel to Manchester City.

Etihad Stadium

The five-times winners come into this having redeemed themselves somewhat from their shock defeat to the Latics last May, coming from behind to defeat Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final. However, that they needed two wonder strikes to rescue them at Wembley may provide Wigan with some encouragement. Going forward, they look have looked far less potent in recent weeks than at any other time this season.

Wigan have already gone to the Etihad Stadium and conceded five during the current campaign, but a lot has changed for the holders since that Capital One Cup mauling back in September. Manager Uwe Rosler, who returns to his former club, has overseen a superb run of form which has catapulted his side from mid-table mediocrity to a place in the play-offs, as arguably the Championship’s strongest squad begins to fulfil its potential.

Sergio Aguero could keep his place in the Man City team after playing an hour of the Capital One Cup final, but Matija Nastasic and Stevan Jovetic are still out.

The away side are likely to be without Manchester United loanee Nick Powell, who is nursing a hamstring problem. Callum McManaman could feature after recovering from an injury of his own.
