Manuel Pellegrini is not worrying about the possibility of losing star forward Sergio Aguero in the summer but has claimed that it will be hard for the club to bring in English players, Sky Sports has reported.

The Argentine international has a phenomenal record since signing from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 - averaging better than a goal every two appearance for the club, but has been linked with a move away to City’s current Champions League opponents Barcelona.

City head to the Nou Camp in midweek attempting to overhaul a 2 - 0 first leg deficit, but Pellegrini is not concerned that Aguero may be thinking of a move to their opponents in the summer.

Pellegrini said: “I don't think the idea of Sergio is to leave Manchester City.

"Sergio is very happy here. You never know what can happen in the future, but he is a very important player here.

"Big clubs do not sell their best players and I don't think Sergio will be going anywhere.”

Meanwhile Pellegrini has moved to brush off suggestions his side may not be able to fulfil the criteria for home grown players next season.

Joleon Lescott’s contract is up at the end of the season, while Micah Richards, Jack Rodwell and James Milner have all been linked with moves away from the Etihad Stadium.

The Chilean added: “It's very difficult to have important English players in every team. They are very expensive and you don't have too many English players.

"All the important teams have English players in their side but, if you want to buy an English player, it is difficult.

"We have five English players and three of them - Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott and James Milner are very important. The other two - Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell - have had an unlucky season because they've had a lot of injuries.

"Foreign players are very important and English players are exactly the same. Technically, physically and tactically, they are the same. There are English players in all the big teams here.

"But it is not easy to bring another English player to Manchester City because who will sell?”
