Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon has insisted that he is to blame for his side’s 1-0 loss to Southampton last Saturday, according to Sky Sports.

Jason Puncheon

The 27-year-old made the error of a weak headed back-pass to his goalkeeper, only for Southampton’s Jay Rodriquez to grab the ball and score.

The former Saints man admitted that his mistake was costly for his side, who are just two points above the relegation zone.

"I'm very disappointed. I'm disappointed with myself, the mistake I made on the halfway line," said Puncheon.

"You've got to be honest with yourself. If you can't be honest with yourself, you're never going to get nowhere.

"When the ball came I didn't actually see Jay to my right. I headed it and then when I saw him I tried to recover - I nearly got there but I couldn't.”

The winger’s error comes when there are just 10 games left in the Premier League season for his side and they will be desperate to secure as many points as possible between now and the end of the campaign.

"The games are getting thinner now. We've got 10 games left and we've got to get points," added Puncheon.

"We've got to concentrate on us, worry what we do and try and get the points on the table."
