Chelsea are set to open new contract talks with defender Branislav Ivanovic in hopes of securing a new four year deal for the player, report the Daily Mail.

The defender, who has two years left to run on his current deal, turned 30 last month but Chelsea are willing to offer improved terms on his £120,000 a week salary after an impressive season so far.

Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid are credited with an interest in the Serbian but the player is keen to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge having become a trusted figure under Jose Mourinho .

Ivanovic is viewed as one of the senior figures in the dressing room and Mourinoh is counting on his help to bring through the next influx of young players he intends to develop in coming seaons.

It appears that Chelsea are willing to offer new on year deals to john Terry and Frank Lampard, and may look to put the Serbia international in the same wage bracket.

Speaking last week, prior to playing for Serbia against Republic of Ireland, Ivanovic underlined how he is settled with life in London.

He said: “I can say this is the happiest I have been at Chelsea because, at the moment, the team is doing well and things are going right for us.”
