Everton looking to re-sign midfielder Rodwell

Tuesday 11 March 2014

Everton are to offer midfielder Jack Rodwell the chance to return to Goodison Park this summer, the Guardian has reported.

Jack Rodwell

The youngster has struggled to make an impact at Manchester City since making the move from Everton in the summer of 2012. He has found it particularly difficult to establish himself since Manuel Pellegrini took over as manager back in June. Overall for the club, he has made 23 appearances, scoring twice.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to add more depth to his squad over the summer, particularly in central midfield where Darron Gibson - who has a long-term injury, James McCarthy and Leon Osman are his only options available, with Gareth Barry on loan from the Etihad Stadium.

And with Man City not offering Rodwell the chance of first-team football at present, Martinez is looking to tempt Rodwell back to Everton, for whom he made 109 appearances before his departure.

The newspaper also claims that the Merseyside club made bid to re-sign Rodwell on loan on transfer deadline day in January, but the deal collapsed due to Man City’s failure to sign FC Porto midfielder Fernando. Barry’s loan move would have been made permanent as part of any agreement.
