Cissokho Liverpool stay unlikely
Left-back Aly Cissokho is likely to return to Valencia at the end of the season, with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers unwilling to make his loan deal permanent, reports ESPN.
Cissokho was originally brought to Anfield last summer to provide competition for first-choice left-back Jose Enrique, but the Spaniard’s lengthy spell out injured has enabled him to make 17 appearances for Liverpool this season.
However, the 26-year-old has struggled to find his best form for the Reds, and has lost his place to Jon Flanagan and Glen Johnson - who are not natural left-backs - in recent weeks. Rodgers is now likely to spend the summer pursuing other defensive targets.
On Cissokho’s performances, Rodgers said: “Aly has come in and done his best. He was not in the team to start with, and then he got injured. Aly has come in and performed to the best of his capabilities.”
The France international’s contract at Valencia runs out in 2016, and it is at the Mestalla where is likely to play his football next season. Prior to his move to England, Cissokho scored twice in 36 appearances for the La Liga side.
