Courtois plays down Real Madrid reports
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has played down reports that he will join Real Madrid in 2016, when his contract at Chelsea expires, writes Sky Sports.
Despite joining Chelsea in the summer of 2011, the Belgian international is yet to make appearance for the Blues. Instead, he is now in his third season on loan at Real Madrid’s city rivals Atletico, for whom he has impressed in his 138 appearances.
Courtois is thought to be considered a long-term replacement for current Chelsea No.1 goalkeeper Petr Cech, and he is scheduled to return to Stamford Bridge this summer, but reports in Spain over recent days suggest that he could be heading to the Bernabeu in two years time.
In response, the 21-year-old has played down the reports. "At the moment, it is not clear," said Courtois. "I have a two-year contract with them and at the end of the season we will see.
"I have a contract with Atletico Madrid until the end of the season and I am focused on them. At the end of the season we will talk with (Chelsea manager) Jose Mourinho and the Chelsea board members. I have a contract with them, so no problem for me."
