Rooney: Difficult seeing Liverpool and Man City challenge
Wayne Rooney has said he doesn’t enjoy seeing Manchester City and Liverpool fighting for the Premier League title while Manchester United struggle to put together a run of form, ESPN has reported.
Rooney added that his misery is compounding by City being one of the teams competing with the Reds at the top of the table. Chelsea currently lead the way, seven points clear of Liverpool but the Blues have played a game more. City are fourth but have two games in hand on Liverpool and three on Chelsea.
“To see City doing well, and particularly Liverpool, is really difficult,” Rooney told Inside United magazine.
“It's not nice when we know we are capable of being up there challenging and we haven't been doing that this season. However, it means we have to step up and get back up there because the feeling we've had this season is not a nice feeling at all to have.
“We have to keep working, keep progressing and finish the season stronger.”
United are currently sixth in the table, nine points short of City and 11 adrift of Liverpool, United’s opponents on Sunday.
