Everton midfielder Aiden McGeady has urged his side to make a final charge for a top-four finish in the Premier League, according to Sky Sports.

The Toffees were knocked out of the FA Cup, beaten 4-1 by Arsenal last weekend, and will now be looking to bounce back.

Despite recent defeats to Chelsea and Tottenham, and a nine point gap separating Everton from fourth place, McGeady still believes his side can make a late surge up the table.

"I think it's always been the target, but you know maybe four or five games ago we would have said it was more realistic," said the Irishman.

"A couple of results haven't went our way recently, Chelsea away, Tottenham away, but I think we've got a game in hand on Spurs and we're only a few points behind so if we can finish as high up the table as possible, that's the main aim. Whatever else comes will be a bonus."

Despite the 4-1 scoreline defeat to Arsenal, inflicted by Olivier Giroud’s late double, McGeady feels that the result was harsh and failed to reflect Everton’s performance.

Now the 27-year-old is ready to learn from the mistakes that cost them in the last match and focus on getting a result at Cardiff.

"It was difficult because I think the whole team thought we played well enough, but the last 15-20 minutes when we were pushing to try and get ourselves back in the game when we were one down we left the door open at the back a bit,” added McGeady.

"They countered on us a few times. It made it look a big defeat when there probably wasn't three goals in the game."
