Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has echoed the opinion of his Chelsea counterpart and made Manchester City favourites to win the Premier League title this season, talkSPORT has reported.

Chelsea are currently top of the table with Liverpool second, seven points behind. The Reds have a game in hand on the leaders but City, nine points adrift, have played two games fewer than Liverpool and three fewer than Chelsea.

“Jose is right,” Rodgers said. “City have the power in terms of their squad. If they win their three games in hand they will go to the top and you would expect them to win those.

“I have never made a big push publicly about us winning the title,” Rodgers continued. “For me it's not about playing down expectations or mind games, it's really about taking a humble approach to the season.

“We have been letting our actions on the pitch do the talking and remaining dignified in our approach to everything. We've been looking to improve our performance levels and that's been getting better all the time.”

Liverpool play Manchester United this weekend, with the defending Premier League champions off the pace in sixth. United are level on points with manager David Moyes’ former team Everton but have played a game more than the Toffees. United and Liverpool are separated by 11 points.
