Swansea vs West Brom - Premier League preview and team news

Soundly beaten in each of their previous Premier League visits to Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion return to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday in desperate need of maximum points.

Swansea will have been disappointed to have only taken a point from their home encounter with Crystal Palace, not least because the penalty which levelled the game for the visitors was given for an offence which took place outside the box. That result meant that they still cannot rest easily, because their present tally of 29 points ensures that Garry Monk’s team are far from safe.

On the evidence of recent performances, West Brom look in more danger than the Welsh club. They put in a very hard-working display against Manchester United in their previous game, but the quality was lacking, and Pepe Mel really needs his first win in charge. Meetings with Hull City, Cardiff City and Norwich City follow this, so this is the beginning of a vital period for the under-fire Spaniard.

Chico Flores misses out for Swansea as he serves a one-match ban. Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey is doubtful with a hamstring problem, and Miguel Michu is still unlikely to return from injury.

West Brom’s Nicolas Anelka continues to serve a suspension, while Billy Jones, Chris Brunt, Steven Reid and Claudio Yacob are all sidelined by injury.
