Stoke vs West Ham - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Friday 14 March 2014

Locked together on 31 points, Stoke City and West Ham United will both be looking to edge further towards safety when they meet at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke have been on a decent run, and they will have undoubtedly been the happier side after their draw at Norwich City last time out. Their home record has been key to their fortunes this season, as only two clubs have taken all three points away from the East Midlands, in what has been a solid first season for Mark Hughes. Victory here will lift them into the top half, and well clear of trouble.

It is West Ham who currently lie in 10th place, thanks to a superb February which saw them win four out of four in the Premier League, and gave Sam Allardyce the Manager of the Month award. Their last game may have ended in defeat away to Everton, but the Hammers are now in a very good position to avoid being dragged back into the battle at the bottom, but they still need some points to be sure of safety.

Charlie Adam and Jonathan Walters are both suspended for Stoke, while Robert Huth could be out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.

For West Ham, Andy Carroll could start for the first time since his three-match ban, but Marco Borriello and Joey O’Brien are both out.
