Fulham vs Newcastle - Premier League preview and team news
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew begins his three-match stadium ban on Saturday as his side travel to the Premier League’s bottom club, Fulham.
Felix Magath may still be confident of keeping Fulham in the top-flight, but they are now beginning to run out of games. Defeat last time out at Cardiff City was a crushing blow, as it left them four points adrift of safety with just nine games left, and with the division’s worst goal difference. Magath will now have to mastermind the sort of escape act that Roy Hodgson did in 2008, if Fulham are to stay up once again.
The visitors come into this game with renewed belief, even in the absence of their boss. Loic Remy’s late winner against Aston Villa gave them the inspiration to hit four in a superb display of counter-attacking football at Hull City, a result that was sadly marred by Pardew’s loss of composure in the dugout. The Magpies do not have a great deal to play for, unlike their opponents, but should still prove a tough proposition.
Ashkan Dejagah and William Kvist are both slight doubts for Fulham, who are already without Damien Duff, Fernando Amorebieta and Scott Parker.
Loic Remy and Mathieu Debuchy have both picked up injuries which keep them out until the end of the month. Newcastle are also without Davide Santon, Gabriel Obertan and Ryan Taylor.
