Everton vs Cardiff - Premier League preview and team news

Cardiff City will be aiming to build on their massive win over Fulham by collecting a positive result from a difficult game at Everton.

The home side are currently undergoing their first difficult spell of results under Roberto Martinez, with hopes of a top four finish having all but ended over recent weeks. They did battle to victory in their last Premier League game against West Ham United, but their chances of winning the FA Cup ended in a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal, leaving Martinez to rue his side’s lengthy injury list.

Defender Steven Caulker was the hero as Cardiff breathed new life into their survival bid with victory over bottom club Fulham in what was a must-win game for both teams. However, that win was not enough to lift the Bluebirds out of the relegation zone, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still has plenty of work to do to ensure that Cardiff’s first Premier League season does not end in relegation.

Everton are hopeful that defender Phil Jagielka can return after two games out with a hamstring injury, but Lacina Traore, Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo are still out.

The visitors are waiting on the fitness of defensive duo Andrew Taylor and Ben Turner, but Mark Hudson remains unavailable.
