Moyes expects Man Utd to offer van Persie new deal
Manchester United manager David Moyes has said the club could offer Robin van Persie a new contract after the striker confirmed he was happy to stay at Old Trafford, the Guardian has reported.
Van Persie said on Thursday that rumours suggesting he wanted to leave the Premier League champions were wide of the mark and he was enjoying playing under Moyes. Moyes, at his Friday Press conference, has welcomed van Persie’s comments and suggested United will offer the Netherlands international a new deal.
“It's nice of Robin. He is happy here and we are very pleased about that,” Moyes said. “He has a couple of years to go on his contract and I am sure that is something the board will look at.
“I have been telling you that [he is happy] but you don't believe what I say,” Moyes added.
United play Liverpool at home on Sunday and Moyes added that the visitors are the favourites for the game.
“Their league position suggests they are ahead of us and they possibly do come here favourites,” he said. “Liverpool are having a very good season and we have to do everything we possibly can to beat them.”
