Mourinho: Chelsea doing better than expected

Jose Mourinho has insisted Premier League leaders Chelsea are surpassing expectations so far this season, ITV Sport has reported.

The Blues lead Liverpool by seven points having played a game more than the Reds but despite his side’s lead, Mourinho believes the destination of the title is not for Chelsea to decide.

“The team is motivated and the team is strong and the team has a good mentality and a good spirit, but not because of the table,” Mourinho said. “They know the table is fake.

“What they also know is that every match we have to try to win, every match we have to try to improve. We have clear objectives for next season. If we can do it this season, we don't say no. We are very calm, we are very relaxed. I think that's important.

“There is only one team that if they win every game is champion. That is not us,” Mourinho continued. “To win the Premier League we have to win nine matches and we have to wait for Man City not to win every match.

“We could have 30 points more than them and 10 matches more. It means nothing. When everybody has the same number of matches - I don't know when this is going to happen, maybe in the last week of competition - is when the table is real.”

City have three games in hand on Chelsea and are nine points back in fourth, having had games postponed due to bad weather and also competing in the League Cup final, in which they beat Sunderland.
