Monk: Swansea can’t be too reliant on Michu

Wednesday 19 March 2014

Swansea City interim manager Garry Monk has said that his side should not expect too much from forward Miguel Michu as they look to stay in the Premier League, writes Sky Sports.

Miguel Michu

Michu returned after a lengthy spell on the sidelines during Saturday’s disappointing home defeat to West Bromwich Albion, coming on as a 63rd minute substitute. Prior to that, he had not played for Swansea since December, leaving record signing Wilfried Bony to lead the attack.

The Welsh club have struggled this season and lie just four points clear of the Premier League’s bottom three, so the Spaniard’s return has led to belief that he can score the goals that will guide them to safety.

However, Monk has warned fans and players alike at Swansea not to rely too heavily on last season’s top scorer. He said: "A few of the other boys have been chipping in with goals while Michu has been out, and of course that has to continue. If he can come in and add his quality and get a few goals then great, but it's a team effort."

On Michu’s performance against West Brom, Monk added: "They were difficult circumstances - ideally it would have been nice to bring him on in a better situation. Maybe if we'd been controlling the game, Michu could have had more of an influence. But it's great to see him back fit and those minutes on the pitch will help him."
