Lampard: Chelsea have to take Arsenal seriously

Frank Lampard has warned his Chelsea teammates not to assume Saturday’s opponents Arsenal are not a factor in the Premier League title race, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Arsenal are currently third in the table, four points behind leaders Chelsea but with a game in hand. The sides meet at Stamford Bridge and Lampard has said that just because it is some time since the Gunners last claimed a trophy, it doesn’t mean they will blow up in their pursuit of the title this year.

“Maybe Arsenal haven’t got the experience, but they have got a lot of good players and quality,” Lampard said. Every team has to break the mould sometime. Manchester City didn’t have the experience a couple of years ago and they won it, so I wouldn’t put too much on that. It’s very simple.

“Worry about yourselves, where you are at the minute. If we do that and win as many games as we can to the end of the season, we give ourselves a great chance,” Lampard added.

“To be fair to Arsenal, they are always there. I know they might have been slightly off the pace in certain years, but they are Champions League every year and top four. I think they have improved. I have got a lot of respect for Arsenal anyway. So I’m not that surprised. They have got a lot of quality players.”

Chelsea lead the way with Liverpool in second, also four points behind and like Arsenal, with a game in hand on the Blues. Manchester City are fourth, six points adrift of top spot, but they have played three fewer games than Jose Mourinho’s side.
